All About the Referees
The referee plays an important role in a football match and their rulings indirectly affect the outcome of the football match and also the football results. The referee has to be objective and fair. Keeping tabs on 22 players on the field is no simple task. Therefore, the referee has to be both a good player and a just one.
To be a referee, one must understand the heavy responsibilities of a referee. This list of responsibilities can be found in Law 5 of the Laws of the Game established by the International Football Association Board. Knowledge of rules are essential for the referee to control the game in a consistent manner.
Besides that, the referee has to ensure that the ball and all other equipment meet specific requirements and have not been meddled with. In addition to that, the referee also acts as a time keeper for the entire match.
The most crucial role for the referee is probably the issuing of the yellow and red cards in the event of an inappropriate conduct. The referee also has the authority to request for the suspension of the match in case of an injury or emergency. Even when the game is over, the referee still has a job to do. This is because they have to submit a report to the appropriate governing bodies after the match
